About us
The nonprofit “Pikuach Nefesh” – A Jewish Response to Emergencies was founded in 5770 (2010) as a framework for acts of kindness (chesed). Its central goal is humanitarian aid to individuals, families, groups and Jewish communities who have fallen — or may fall — into emergency and distress, in Israel and around the world.
The founders, students of the tzaddik Rabbi Asher Freund zt”l, began this work of chesed some 40 years ago. At first it was funded from their own pockets, but as the circle of people in need widened and costs grew, the nonprofit was formally established.
